A resort town with beaches such as Playa Grande and an old harbour, close to the airport. It suits families, first visits and a winter month by the beach.

Parking rules in Puerto del Carmen were not verified as of September 2026, so ask the host whether a space comes with the booking. The La Geria wine road is about 12 km away.
The southern resort, with town beaches, a marina, the Papagayo coves and the ferry to Fuerteventura. It suits beach holidays and guests who want a day on a second island.

The Papagayo beaches charge EUR 3 per vehicle on an unpaved track, by card or phone only. Ferries to Corralejo take about 35 minutes and carry cars, but a hire car usually needs the rental company's authorisation to leave the island.
The east-coast resort north of Arrecife, with town beaches and markets. It suits families and guests who want Arrecife and the north within a short drive.

Costa Teguise holds a farmers' market on Tuesday mornings and evening markets on Wednesdays and Fridays. Parking rules in the resort were not verified as of September 2026.
The capital, around the Charco de San Ginés lagoon, with a town beach and year-round services. It suits work stays, a month and guests who want a real town more than a resort.

A surf village at the end of Famara beach, about 6 km of sand below the Risco de Famara cliffs. It suits surfers and slow stays, less so anyone who wants calm water.

The village is reached on the LZ-402 and LZ-410 from the Teguise side, about 13 km from Teguise. Parking rules in the village were not verified as of September 2026.
The green valley of Haría and the north-east coast villages of Arrieta, Punta Mujeres and Órzola. It suits walkers and slow stays in rural houses, with a car.

The LZ-10 climbs from Tahíche to Haría. Órzola, the port for La Graciosa, has a blue zone with resident cards, and the ferry companies run their own car parks. For homes newly declared for tourist use, the listing must say if the access is unpaved or on foot.
Where to stay
No base on Lanzarote is far from the airport; the farthest area in this guide is about 35 km away by road. The choice is about the kind of place: a resort, the capital, a surf village or the green north.

Since August 2026 Canary law draws its line at 31 days. A month on Lanzarote is either a stay in a registered holiday home or a seasonal lease that states why the tenant needs temporary housing.

No accommodation tourist tax in Lanzarote was found as of September 2026. Press reports from July 2026 describe Mogán, in Gran Canaria, as the only Canary municipality with one. No official statement that Lanzarote has none was found, so treat this as reported rather than confirmed.
Under Canary Islands Ley 6/2025, the regional tourism register number must appear in any advert for a holiday home, on platforms or anywhere else. A listing without one deserves a question before paying.
