Tbilisi charges no tourist tax, and citizens of many countries, the US, UK and Germany among them, can stay a full year without a visa. The decisions that matter are the district and where the car sleeps, because the central streets have hourly paid parking.

Airport
Tbilisi International (TBS), 17 km south-east of the city; about 18 km by road to Freedom Square. Bus 337 to the centre, 1 GEL. Source

None. The Tax Code of Georgia allows property tax as the only local tax and bars any tax it does not list (articles 5 and 6). Source
Short-term rental rules
Georgia's Law on Tourism registers tour operators, agencies and guides, not accommodation. No rule requiring a number on rental listings was found; unverified as of September 2026. Source

Old Town (Kala, Abanotubani, Meidan)

The historic core around Meidan square and Abanotubani, the old bath district known for its sulphur baths, within walking distance of the Narikala fortress and the river. It suits a first visit and a short stay on foot.

Car and parking

Baratashvili, Kote Abkhazi and Abano streets, in and next to the Old Town, were in the hourly paid zone when it returned in 2021. The zonal rate is 1 to 3 GEL an hour with 15 minutes free, and a car left over 12 hours unpaid in a paid zone can be towed. Ask the host about a private space before arriving.

Sololaki

Old houses and quieter streets a short walk above Freedom Square and the Old Town; Gizo Nishnianidze Street has residential houses from 1893. It suits a week or a month in the centre on foot.

Car and parking

Sololaki is in the Mtatsminda district, where the 2021 paid zone covered parts of Baratashvili Street. Whether each Sololaki street is zoned today could not be checked, so ask the host where to park.

Vera

A residential district close to the centre with Vera Park. It suits longer stays close to the centre.

Vake

A residential district with Vake Park and shops along Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue. It suits families and monthly stays.

Car and parking

Ilia Chavchavadze Avenue and Zakaria Paliashvili Street were among the Vake paid-zone streets in 2021. For a long stay, a monthly zonal pass is 300 GEL and a daily one 20 GEL.

Saburtalo

A large residential district of newer blocks, where a construction boom was photographed in 2021. It suits longer stays on a tighter budget, further from the historic centre.

Streets from Zhvania Square to Beijing Avenue, including Mitskevich, Tsintsadze and Bakhtrioni, were in the paid zone in 2021, with 1,039 spaces.

Questions

Does Tbilisi have a tourist tax?

No. The Tax Code of Georgia allows property tax as the only local tax and forbids any tax it does not list, and the law on local fees lists no accommodation or tourist fee.

How far is the airport from the centre?

United Airports of Georgia puts Tbilisi International Airport 17 km south-east of the city; by road it is about 18 km to Freedom Square. Bus 337 runs to the centre for 1 GEL.

How does paid parking work in Tbilisi?

Zonal parking costs 1, 2 or 3 GEL an hour depending on the zone, paid in the official Tbilisi Parking app, and the first 15 minutes are free. Passes run from 20 GEL a day to 300 GEL a month.

Which district suits a month?

Vake, Vera and Saburtalo are residential and suit a month; Sololaki suits a central month on foot. The Old Town works best for a short first visit.
