About Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik airport lies 22.5 km from the city, and from 1 April to 31 October a camera-controlled zone keeps most cars out of the streets around the Old Town. For a driver, the choice of area starts there.

Short-term rental rules
Household hosts may advertise only their official type and category and must post in each unit that the tourist tax is included in the price. Since 2025 a city council may set the number and type of new accommodation; no Dubrovnik decision was found as of September 2026. Source

Old Town

The walled Old Town, with Stradun, the old harbour and the main sights on foot. It suits a short first visit for people who travel light and accept crowds on cruise days. Stays are rooms and apartments in old stone houses and a few small hotels.

Car and parking

Inside the walls, motor vehicles need city approval and run only in early-morning slots. From 1 April to 31 October the streets around the walls are a camera zone: park at Pile only with a reservation, EUR 20 an hour from May to October, or leave the car outside the zone.

Ploče

The hillside east of the walls, above Banje beach, with hotels and apartment houses a short walk from the Old Town. It suits a beach-and-town stay with sea views, for guests whose host can offer a registered parking space.

Car and parking

Part of the traffic zone from 1 April to 31 October, and streets such as Frana Supila are zone 2, residents only. To keep a car there, the host needs a private space or garage and must enter its plate with the city; a reservation at Pile or the cable car car park covers only the booked hours.

Lapad and Babin Kuk

The peninsula west of Gruž, with hotels and apartments around Lapad bay and on Babin Kuk. It suits families and longer stays that want the sea close by and the Old Town a few kilometres away.

Car and parking

Outside the traffic zone. Main streets are Sanitat zone 3, EUR 1.30 an hour from March to November, charged daily 06:00 to 22:00, with weekly tickets at EUR 53.10 and monthly tickets at EUR 172.54 in those months.

Gruž

The port district, where the city's local boat line to Koločep leaves from Gruž port and Sanitat lists a public car park opposite Jadrolinija, the ferry company. It suits boat days and practical stays more than beach time.

Cavtat

A small harbour town in the Municipality of Konavle, about 6 km by road from the airport. It suits early flights, a quieter base and drivers heading south, with a hotel tourist tax of EUR 2.50 from April to September.

Župa dubrovačka

The bay between the airport and the city, with Mlini, Srebreno and Kupari on the shore. It suits a beach stay with a car, and its hotel tourist tax from April to September is EUR 2.00 against Dubrovnik's EUR 2.65.

How much is the tourist tax in Dubrovnik in 2026?

In hotels and other commercial accommodation, EUR 2.65 per person per night from 1 April to 30 September and EUR 1.85 the rest of the year. Children under 12 are exempt and ages 12 to 18 pay half. In private household apartments the host pays a yearly amount per bed instead.

Can a car reach a hotel or apartment next to the Old Town?

From 1 April to 31 October only with a permit: a prepaid reservation at the Pile or cable car car park, or a private space or garage whose holder has entered the car's plate with the city. Cameras read every plate, and the fine is EUR 260 for a private driver and EUR 1,320 for a company.

Which area is closest to Dubrovnik airport?

Cavtat, about 6 km by road, then Mlini in Župa dubrovačka at about 12 km. The Old Town is about 21 km by road.

Where can a car stay for a week or a month?

On zone 3 streets, for example in Lapad: Sanitat sells weekly and monthly tickets for them, and a month cost EUR 172.54 from March to November on its 2026 price pages. It sells none for the Pile car park or zone 1, and zone 2 is for residents.
