Where to stay in Bodrum

Bodrum town grows around its harbour and the castle of the Knights Hospitaller, home to the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Gümbet and Bitez are bays west of the town, about 4 and 9 km from the castle by road.

Turgutreis, about 20 km away in the south-west, is a marina town with its own municipal car parks. Gümüşlük, at the western tip, is a village on a bay with Rabbit Island offshore. Yalıkavak on the north-west coast has a marina and a palm promenade, and Göltürkbükü is a bay on the north coast with hillside houses and piers with sunbeds.

Milas-Bodrum airport is 37 km from the town centre by the airports authority figure; by road the bays run to about 55 km for Yalıkavak and about 60 km for Gümüşlük. HAVAŞ and MUTTAŞ shuttles, minibuses and taxis also serve the airport.

The metropolitan municipality publishes the prices of its car parks. At the Bodrum intercity bus terminal, in Torba about 5.5 km from the castle by road, the first 25 minutes are free, then 65 TL up to an hour, 90 TL up to two hours and 40 TL for each further hour, with a monthly subscription at 4,000 TL. In Turgutreis, two car parks charge 60 TL for the first hour, 100 TL up to two hours and 40 TL an hour after that. The Bodrum municipality fee schedule for 2026 lists no public car park, so in the bays parking is a question for the hotel or host.

Pavement parking has consequences. The municipality traffic police refer cars parked on pavements, at junctions, at bus stops or on emergency routes to the council committee for action, and 3,564 vehicles had been referred in 2026 by August. Since February 2026 a traffic fine on a rental car can be issued to the renter.

Until 31 October 2026 an order of the Muğla governor bans entry to listed forests and any stop or picnic beside them; around Bodrum the list includes the Göltürkbükü forests between Torba and Yalıkavak and the Güvercinlik forests on the Milas road. The accommodation tax is national: 1% of the room price before VAT from 1 May to 31 December 2026, 2% before that, shown on the invoice as its own line. The Bodrum municipality fee schedule for 2026 lists no charge of its own on overnight stays. When a booking site sold the room without the tax, the hotel invoices it to the guest after the stay.

Villas and flats let for up to 100 days need a permit from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, whether the home is a flat or a detached villa registered as a home. The listing must show the permit number and say whether parking is included, a plaque marked Turizm Amaçlı Konut belongs at the entrance, and in a shared building every flat owner must have agreed.

Hotels, villas and flats record each guest's passport and report it to the police at once, and may not accept a guest without an identity document.

With an early or late flight, the town, Gümbet and Göltürkbükü are the shortest runs, about 38 to 46 km from the airport by road. For the western bays, settle the parking with the room. The forest ban runs to 31 October 2026, and the 1% tax rate covers stays up to 31 December 2026.
