A month in Zagreb

Under Croatian law a month can be tourist accommodation or a residential lease. As tourist accommodation, the host registers the guest in eVisitor and commercial providers charge the tourist tax per night. A residential lease falls under the Zakon o najmu stanova, which requires a written contract stating the rent, which running costs the tenant pays and how, who lives there and for how long.

The point at which a longer stay stops being tourist accommodation could not be verified as of September 2026, so ask the host which of the two is on offer before paying.

Airbnb calls 28 nights or more a monthly stay. It charges the first month up front and releases it to the host 24 hours after check-in, then charges later months 10 days before each period. How other platforms name or filter long stays in Zagreb was not verified.

In hotels and other commercial accommodation, 30 nights at EUR 1.86 come to EUR 55.80 per adult in tourist tax, whatever the month. In a private household apartment the host pays EUR 55 per bed for 2026 and must display that the tax is included in the price. People in Zagreb for work are exempt for the duration of the work, with proof such as an employment contract.

Zagrebparking sells commercial parking cards at its customer centre, on its ePK portal, at the newer machines and in the ZgPark app. A month costs EUR 95.60 in zone 1, EUR 47.80 in zone 2 and EUR 17.00 in zone 3, and a week EUR 23.90, EUR 11.90 and EUR 4.20. Whether a zone 1 card lifts the two-hour limit was not verified. The central garages sell a round-the-clock monthly ticket at EUR 133, or one card for Tuškanac, Langov trg and Petrinjska at EUR 200, and Kvaternikov trg and Gorica at EUR 100; a monthly ticket does not guarantee a free space.

No official statistic on monthly rents in Zagreb was found, nor on deposits or utilities, so this guide gives no figures for them.

Trnje suits a month with a car on a budget: its zone 3 streets cost EUR 17 a month with a commercial card, about 1.5 km from Ban Jelačić Square. Maksimir and Trešnjevka are zone 2, EUR 47.80 a month, and Maksimir adds the Kvaternikov trg garage at EUR 100 a month. In the Lower Town, a garage card at EUR 133 a month covers the car around the clock.

The Upper Town makes the weakest monthly base for a driver: stopping and parking in its streets are reserved for residents and official vehicles.

The host registers the guest in eVisitor within 24 hours of arrival, whatever the length of stay. Visitors from outside the EU may stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, which Croatia has fully applied at airports since 26 March 2023, and the EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. UK travel advice warns that overstaying can bring a Schengen ban of up to three years.

EU and EEA citizens who stay more than three months register a temporary stay with the police, no later than eight days after the three months run out.

Leaving the car in the Upper Town. Its streets are for residents, and a car without a card is issued a EUR 19.90 day ticket.

A lease that is not in writing. The residential lease act requires writing, with the running costs and who pays them spelled out.
