Centro storico

The old town on the spit between the two seas, with baroque church fronts along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and a walkway out to Torre di Ligny at the tip. It suits a stay on foot, a first visit and an early hydrofoil, since the port is about 2 km away by road.

Car and parking

The old town is a limited traffic zone, and the comune publishes no current hours. The 2020 ordinance that extended the zone told the Polizia Locale to give lodging businesses authorisations so guests can drive in to load or unload luggage and then park outside the zone; ask the property whether it holds one. ATM's blue bays cost EUR 1.00 an hour in the red band and EUR 0.70 in the yellow band, Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 13:30 and 15:30 to 20:00, and from 1 June to 30 September the historic-centre streets are charged from 08:00 to 24:00 every day. Those are the standard rates on ATM's page; a summer increase reported in the press is unverified as of September 2026. A camera fine runs EUR 83 to 332.

Erice

The walled hill town above Trapani, cobbled streets between stone houses, 10 minutes up by the cable car from the SP31 in Trapani. It is a separate comune, so its tourist tax is set by Erice, not by Trapani. Airgest gives Erice vetta as 23 km from the airport; the road run from the terminal is about 32 km. It suits a night above the plain and travellers happy to leave the car outside the walls.

Erice's red and green ZTLs are closed to circulation and parking without a pass, and between 15 July and 15 September pass holders may enter the red zone only from 02:00 to 11:00. Accommodation service vehicles may carry guests into the green zone, but guests' own cars are not on the list of vehicles allowed in. Paid bays outside the green zone are reserved to residents and to non-resident owners with passes in the paid season, and motorhomes, caravans and coaches are banned from Piazzale Porta Trapani along viale Conte Pepoli.

Nubia and the salt pans

The flats south of the city, where the Riserva Naturale Saline di Trapani e Paceco covers 1,000 hectares, is managed by WWF Italia, has been a Ramsar wetland since 2011 and records over 240 bird species. Nubia is in the comune of Paceco, so its tourist tax is set there. It suits birdwatching and a quiet base near the airport.

Favignana and the Egadi

The largest of the Egadi islands, with cut tufa cliffs above clear water at Cala Rossa. Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo form their own comune, so the tourist tax there is not Trapani's. It suits a few nights on an island without a car.

Car and parking

The islands are reached by Liberty Lines hydrofoil from the Trapani port. Whether a visitor may land a car on Favignana in summer is unverified as of September 2026, so plan on leaving the car on the mainland.
