A month in Salerno
A month in Salerno costs little in tourist tax, because the tax stops after seven nights. The decisions that matter are the lease type and where the car goes.

What a month means legally here
Italian law calls a home let for up to 30 days a short let, a locazione breve, and Salerno taxes it like other non-hotel lodgings. It carries the national identification code, the CIN, outside the building and in every listing, it needs the comune's CUSR code through the SUAP office, and the host registers each guest with the police within 24 hours.
A lease of a home for more than 30 days in the year must be registered with the Agenzia delle Entrate within 30 days of signing, and a lease that should be registered and is not is void. A holiday month is a tourist let under the Civil Code and has to be in writing. A transitory lease, up to 18 months, is for a documented need such as work or study, uses a standard form, and becomes an ordinary long lease if those conditions are not met.
The tourist tax applies for at most 7 consecutive nights. A month in a short-let flat at EUR 3.00 a night therefore comes to EUR 21 per person, and EUR 35 in a 4 or 5 star hotel at EUR 5.00. Whoever collects the rent, a platform included, answers for the tax and charges it to the guest, under a national rule in force until 31 December 2026. Whether the tax applies to a tourist let of more than 30 days is unverified as of September 2026.
The areas that suit a month

Torrione and Mercatello, the station quarter around Piazza della Concordia, and the Lungomare are the three that have month-long parking in the operator's own table. The Centro Storico is the hardest, because its streets are narrow and the paid bays on Via Roma and Via Indipendenza run until 03:00 every day.
The monthly figures come from Salerno Mobilita. Sottopiazza della Concordia costs EUR 100.00 a month for daytime use, 06:00 to 22:00, Monday to Saturday; Piazza della Concordia costs EUR 50.00 a month at night, 22:00 to 07:00, every day; Foce Irno is EUR 50.00 daytime or EUR 120.00 full time; Via L. Vinciprova is EUR 30.00 daytime or EUR 50.00 full time; and Via A. Carella is EUR 50.00 a month for 24-hour use, the one the company marks as reserved to non-residents. Subscriptions are limited in number, so ask early.
The resident permit for a ZPRU zone, at EUR 50.00 a year, is for residents only and is not a route for a visitor on a month.
The paperwork
Deposit: for a home let as a dwelling the deposit may not exceed three months' rent under article 11 of Law 392/1978. Whether that cap binds a holiday let governed by the Civil Code is unverified as of September 2026, so agree the deposit in writing.
Every guest shows an identity document or passport at check-in and the host registers them with the police. A landlord who houses a non-EU national notifies the police within 48 hours with the passport details.
EU citizens staying more than three months register with the comune's registry office, with proof of work, study, or sufficient means and health cover. Visitors from outside the EU, including those from the United Kingdom and the United States, may stay 90 days in any 180 across the Schengen area, and the EU Entry/Exit System has registered their short stays since 10 April 2026.
What platforms call long stays
Vrbo's monthly-stays page, as archived in June 2026, describes stays of 28 nights or more and says selected homes offer a discount for them. Agoda lets partners offer long-stay promotions on bookings of more than 28 days and permits stays of up to 90 days.
The platform label does not settle the legal status. Up to 30 days, check the CIN on the listing. Beyond 30 days, ask for a written lease and its registration with the Agenzia delle Entrate. Compare and book on this page once that is clear.
Pitfalls
A listing with no CIN.
A lease of more than 30 days that is never registered: it is void.
Assuming a resident permit will cover the car. It will not; the subscriptions a visitor can buy are the car-park ones, and Via A. Carella is the one the operator states is open to non-residents.
Booking a month on the Amalfi Coast itself and expecting to drive it. The plate rule exempts arrival and departure days only, and the comune rates quoted here are Salerno's, not those of the coast comuni.
A deposit above three months' rent on a lease of a home, and miscounting Schengen days.
