Aktion airport serves three places at once: Preveza across the strait, Lefkada across the causeway to the south, and the Epirus coast up to Parga in the north. The right base depends on which coast the days will go to.

How the areas differ
Preveza is a town on the north side of the mouth of the Ambracian Gulf, linked to the airport side by the undersea tunnel and about 7 km from the terminal by road. Ancient Nicopolis lies 7 km to the north, and the municipality holds 2026 Blue Flags for five beaches, Monolithi, Kyani and Kanali among them.
Lefkada is an island joined to the mainland by a causeway and a floating bridge. Lefkada Town, its capital, is about 22 km from the airport. Nydri, on the east coast facing Skorpios and Madouri, is about 38 km away; Agios Nikitas, a small beach resort on the north-west coast, about 36 km; and Vasiliki, the windsurfing bay on the south coast, about 59 km.
Parga lies on the Epirus coast between Preveza and Igoumenitsa, about 65 km from the airport by road, with a castle above the harbour and Valtos beach, which holds a Blue Flag for 2026.
Staying with a rental car
The bases are far apart, so most days start with a drive. By road from the airport: Preveza about 7 km, Lefkada Town about 22 km, Agios Nikitas about 36 km, Nydri about 38 km, Vasiliki about 59 km and Parga about 65 km. From Lefkada Town the west coast beach of Porto Katsiki is about 43 km; from Vasiliki it is about 15 km.
Between the airport and Preveza the road goes through the Aktio-Preveza tunnel, which has a toll station. Wikipedia gives EUR 3 for a car as of January 2026; no tariff page from the operator was found, so treat the amount as unverified as of September 2026. The drive from the airport to Lefkada does not use the tunnel.
Parking is where the official record is thin. In Parga, council decision 39/2026 opened the yards of the 1st and 2nd primary schools and of the Kanallaki secondary school as free car parks in the summer months after the school year, on public holidays and at weekends, and gave the reason as summer congestion from uncontrolled parking. On Lefkada the municipality leases plots as public car parks, and the 59-space car park above Porto Katsiki is let to an operator who may charge at most EUR 5 per car. For Preveza town, Lefkada Town, Nydri, Agios Nikitas and Vasiliki no parking rules were found, so ask the host whether a space comes with the stay.

Tax and registration rules for a guest
Greece charges a climate resilience fee per night and per room or property, paid by the guest before departure. Article 44 of the Code of indirect taxes (Law 5177/2025) sets the amounts, the same everywhere in Greece and unchanged for 2026: from April to October EUR 8 in a short-term rental, EUR 15 in a detached house over 80 m2 or a tourist villa, EUR 2 in rented rooms and EUR 2 to 15 in hotels by stars; from November to March between EUR 0.50 and EUR 4.
Hotels and professional hosts also charge the municipal visitors' fee on the price of stays under six months, which the guest pays: 0.5% under national law. Lefkada's council decision 217/2025 keeps the 2025 levels for 2026, and on Diavgeia no decision raising the fee was found for Preveza or Parga. Private hosts who let one or two properties do not charge it.
Every short-term rental must show its 11-digit AMA on every platform and advert; licensed properties show a 16-digit ΕΣΛ or a 7-digit ΜΑΓ number instead. Since 1 October 2025, Law 5170/2025 has required smoke detectors, a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit, a guide to emergency numbers and civil liability insurance. None of these municipalities is under the registration ban that applies in central Athens and Thessaloniki.
When to book what
Parga's school-yard parking is a summer measure: the decision ties it to the months after the school year ends, plus public holidays and weekends. The climate fee falls from EUR 8 to EUR 2 a night in a short-term rental from November to March.
West Ferry's crossing from Vasiliki to Fiskardo on Kefalonia runs on a timetable that starts in April. For an early or late flight, Preveza town is the base closest to the terminal. Compare prices on this page before booking.
