Pisa's historic centre is closed to unauthorised cars at every hour of every day. The choice is between a base inside the walls, where a garage or hotel registers the car, and one outside them, where the car stays on the street or in a park and ride.

Inside the Santa Maria ZTL, whose gates run round the clock. A hotel or garage in the zone must register the plate; the Via Cammeo and Via Piave garages charge EUR 3.50 an hour and are open 24 hours.
The medieval centre north of the Arno, with the arcades of Borgo Stretto and the university square. It suits visitors who want a lively, walkable base.

Inside the historic-centre ZTL, gates active from 00:00 to 23:59. The Piazza Andrea del Sarto car park costs EUR 1.50 an hour, from 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Saturday.
Corso Italia, the pedestrian shopping street from the Arno to Pisa Centrale, and the streets around the station. It suits arrivals by train or by the PisaMover from the airport.

The Sant'Antonio ZTL has gates on Via Mazzini, Via Sant'Antonio and Via San Paolo, active round the clock. Blue bays on Piazza della Stazione cost EUR 2.50 for the first hour and EUR 3.50 after, first 20 minutes free.
The district outside the walls north of the Tower, near the stadium. It suits a quieter base where the car stays close.
Car and parking
Outside the historic-centre ZTL. The Via Pietrasantina park and ride costs EUR 0.75 an hour on weekdays from 08:00 to 20:00, with bus 1+ to the Tower and the station every 10 minutes. On Pisa SC home match days a stadium ZTL covers the district from two hours before kick-off.
The comune's coast, with the Marina di Pisa harbour and the beaches of Tirrenia. It suits summer stays and a trip with a car.

Street parking is paid only from 1 June to 15 September: EUR 1.00 an hour or EUR 6.00 a day in the main zone, and in the smaller zones the first 30 minutes are free, then EUR 1.00 an hour.
Where to stay
Pisa is small enough to walk, and its centre never opens to unregistered cars. The areas below differ in how close they sit to the Tower, the station and the sea, and in where the car can stay.

In Pisa the line sits at 30 days. Up to that, a whole flat let to visitors is a short let with the tourist tax; beyond it, the stay is a lease that has to be registered.

In 2026, per person per night: EUR 2.00 to 3.00 in hotels by stars and EUR 2.50 in B&Bs, holiday homes and holiday lets. It is charged for at most 5 consecutive nights from the seventh day before Easter to the first Sunday of November, and 3 nights in the rest of the year.
Only if the car is registered: the camera gates of the four ZTL zones run from 00:00 to 23:59. A garage in the zone puts the plate on the white list by midnight of the next day, and hotels apply to the city for the same right, so ask yours before arriving.
