Where to stay in Pescara
Pescara is a long beach with a city behind it and a river through the middle. The areas differ in whether a car can reach the door at all, and at what hour.

How the areas differ
The centre is the grid around Piazza della Rinascita, between the station and the sea, with Corso Umberto I running down to the beach. South of the river, Pescara Vecchia keeps the older streets around Via delle Caserme and Corso Manthone.
The seafront splits at the Ponte del Mare. North of it, Lungomare Matteotti and Viale della Riviera carry the beach hotels. South of it are the Porto Turistico and the beach running on south.
Inland, the Area di Risulta is the open space between Pescara Centrale and the centre, the coach interchange and the biggest block of cheap all-day parking.
Staying with a rental car

Mayoral ordinance 323 of 25 June 2015 sets five limited-traffic zones and two pedestrian areas, each with its own hours. ZTL 1 takes in Corso Umberto I, Via Milano, Via Roma, Via Mazzini and the streets around Piazza Sacro Cuore, and is closed every day around the clock; so is the central pedestrian area around Piazza della Rinascita. ZTL 2 closes Via Umbria all day and nearby streets from 21:00 to 06:00 on weekdays. ZTL 3, the environmental one on Viale Regina Margherita and Via De Amicis, applies on Sundays and holidays from 16:00 to 20:00 and is suspended from 8 December to 6 January. ZTL 4 is the old town, every day from 04:00 to 20:00, and ZTL 5 covers Via Pesaro and Via Spalti del Re all day.
Camera gates are on ZTL 1 and the central pedestrian area only. They are active all day except 06:00 to 09:00, 13:00 to 16:00 and 21:00 to 22:00, and in those windows only for loading, with a stop of at most 30 minutes. Hotel guests may load and unload luggage within half an hour with a parking disc on the dashboard, and the comune says hoteliers report their guests' plates to the municipal police. An unplanned entry is regularised within 48 hours at the ZTL office.
Paid parking is run by Pescara Multiservice across 18 zones. The all-zones subscription costs EUR 60.00 a month, valid everywhere except Piazza Primo Maggio, and costs half for an electric vehicle. Day rates: EUR 2.50 at Stazione FS Porta Nuova and at the Tribunale on Via Plauto, EUR 4.00 at the Terminal Bus and Bingo area, EUR 5.00 on the Lungomare. Two disc areas, Via Cetteo Ciglia and Piazza Unione, give the first hour free, but exceed it and the free hour is lost retroactively. For the car itself, GetCar's car rental page for Pescara is the place to start.
The airport and the drive in
Abruzzo Airport sits on the Tiburtina west of the city, about 8 km from the centre by road. The hire desks are on the ground floor opposite arrivals, and the airport warns that the office has to be visited even when the rental is booked; the cars are in the Rental Car park, reached from arrivals by the covered canopy on the left.
Its own car park holds more than 500 cars, is open 24 hours and gives the first 15 minutes free. It charges EUR 15 for 24 hours, EUR 35 for three days and EUR 55 for seven, with an average 20 percent increase on ten listed peak days. A driver who loses the ticket pays EUR 160 unless the plate is produced.
By road the airport is reached from the A25 at the Chieti-Pescara exit and then the Sambuceto-Aeroporto exit, or from the A14 at Pescara Ovest-Chieti followed by 6 km of the Tiburtina. The published airport taxi fares are EUR 20 to central Pescara, EUR 25 to the outskirts and EUR 35 to Chieti.
What the tourist tax and registration rules mean for a guest
Pescara charges an imposta di soggiorno per person for each night, set up by council resolution 52 of 19 April 2016 and amended by Giunta resolution 317 of 29 April 2025. The rates are EUR 2.00 in hotels of 5, 4 and 3 stars, EUR 1.50 in two-star hotels, EUR 1.00 in one-star hotels, and EUR 2.00 in what the comune calls other accommodation: agriturismi, B&Bs, holiday houses, hostels, affittacamere, campsites and unclassified properties. The tax is charged for at most 7 consecutive nights.
The exemptions cover residents of the comune, children until their twelfth birthday, people who have turned seventy, one companion per patient staying for care in a local health facility, people on the accompanying allowance, forces on duty, people lodged under emergency orders, and the property's own staff. The carer exemption needs a signed declaration naming both people and the dates.
Every licensed stay in Italy, hotel or short-let flat, carries a national identification code (CIN), shown outside the building and in every listing. A host may accept only guests with an identity document or passport and registers each one with the police within 24 hours. A 2024 Interior Ministry circular, upheld by the Council of State in November 2025, requires identification in person or by a video link at the door.
When to book what
The seafront parking moves with the calendar. The Zona Mare bays run Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 24:00 between 15 April and 15 October and shorter hours otherwise, and the Lungomare Matteotti single-area subscriptions are sold only from the second Monday of September to the first Friday of May.
ZTL 3 on Viale Regina Margherita is suspended from 8 December to 6 January, so the Christmas weeks are the one time that stretch is open on Sundays.
Corso Vittorio Emanuele II turns pedestrian from 16:00 on Saturday until midnight on Sunday, so a weekend arrival cannot reach a door on it by car.
