A month in Palanga

A month in Palanga adds the pillow fee of EUR 2 per person per night unless the host confirms a long-stay exemption; Palanga's notice names none. The other questions are the Schengen day count, parking and trips along the coast.

What a month means legally

Vilnius exempts long-term rental of one month or more from its pillow fee. Kaunas exempts long-term rental too, but its own pages differ on the threshold, one month or more against more than one month. Palanga's notice of 2025 names only two exemptions, children under 18 and patients whose rehabilitation the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund pays, and the decision text could not be read, so whether a month is exempt in Palanga was not confirmed. Ask the host before booking whether the fee applies to the whole stay.

Non-EU visitors may stay 90 days in any 180 across the Schengen area, and since 10 April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System registers them at the external border. British visitors need a passport issued less than 10 years before arrival and valid at least 3 months after leaving the Schengen area. US citizens need no tourist visa for Lithuania. EU citizens need no residence document for the first 3 months and may be required to register after that.

The tax on a month

At EUR 2 per person per night, a 30-night stay would carry EUR 60 per adult if no exemption applies. The fee is set by council decision No. T2-5 of 25 January 2018 as amended, and the amount comes from the municipality's notice of 2025, with no 2026 confirmation found. Children under 18 pay nothing.

Registration and paperwork

The host collects the fee, declares it through the municipality's electronic system and must mention it with the price, so the booking should show whether it is included. Whether a Lithuanian host must register guests with the Migration Department or the police could not be verified for this guide.

The areas and the parking that suit a month

Šventoji, the resort town at the north end of the municipality about 17 km from the pier by road, suits a month with a family and a car; the airport is about 8 km away by road. Birutė Park, around the Amber Museum and the botanical garden about 2 km from the pier, suits a month among gardens within reach of the centre. Nemirseta, at the southern end about 5 km from the pier by road, suits a month with a car.

The title of a municipal notice of unknown year announces a fee for parking in designated paid places of the resort; the 2026 zones, prices, hours and season were unverified as of September 2026. For a month with a car, a space that comes with the apartment avoids the question; ask for it in writing.

Trips along the coast

Nida, on the Curonian Spit, lies in Neringa municipality, which charges cars for entering its protected territory. On its page dated 27 May 2025 the fee is EUR 50 per entry from 20 June to 20 August and EUR 10 from 21 August to 19 June, payable in advance through UNIPARK; no 2026 confirmation was found. A month that runs past 20 August pays the lower rate for a trip there.

What to check before paying

Check whether the price includes the pillow fee for every night, and whether a parking space comes with the apartment. The host must mention the pillow fee with the price, so a quote that leaves it out is worth questioning. For a trip to Nida, fix the dates before paying, since the Neringa fee changes on 20 June and 20 August.

What the platforms call a long stay

Airbnb calls 28 nights or more a monthly stay. It charges the first month up front and releases it to the host 24 hours after check-in, then charges each later month 10 days before it starts. How other platforms label long stays in Palanga was not verified as of September 2026.

Pitfalls

Assuming the Vilnius rule applies. Palanga's notice names no exemption for long stays.

Counting Schengen days only in Lithuania. The 90 days in 180 run across the whole Schengen area.

Planning a Nida trip between 20 June and 20 August without the fee in mind. A car pays EUR 50 per entry from 20 June to 20 August on the 2025 tariff.
