Old Town and the river

The heart of historic Ljubljana, grown from a medieval crossroads and shaped by the architect Jože Plečnik, with the Triple Bridge, the Town Square and Congress Square. It suits a first visit on foot and short stays close to the sights.

Car and parking

The centre has been closed to motor traffic since 2007. The LPT garages at Kongresni trg, Kozolec, Rog and Ilirija charge EUR 2 an hour for the first 3 hours, EUR 3 an hour after that and EUR 4 for the night; a lost ticket costs a full day, at least EUR 20.

Metelkova, Tabor and Poljane

Metelkova Mesto, a centre of alternative culture in former Austro-Hungarian barracks that fills up every evening; Tabor, a cultural quarter around Tabor Park in the immediate vicinity of the centre; and Poljane, a quiet residential neighbourhood of small shops and bakeries. It suits travellers who want to live among residents within walking distance of the sights.

Car and parking

The Metelkova ulica car park charges EUR 1.50 an hour from 06:00 to 22:00 and EUR 4 for the night, and leases spaces at EUR 50 a month, with leases capped at half the spaces.

Trnovo and Krakovo

The two suburbs joined by Plečnik's Trnovo Bridge over the Gradaščica, built between 1929 and 1932, with the Trnovo Church and the architect's own house, now a museum with a large garden. It suits a stay among Plečnik's works, a short walk from the centre.

Car and parking

Which street zone covers Trnovo and Krakovo was not verified. The P+R Barje car park on Barjanska cesta, about 2 km south of the Trnovo Bridge by road, costs EUR 1.50 for 24 hours, with two bus tickets included.

Šiška

A cultural quarter beyond the tourist centre, built around the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, opened in 2009, with its concert hall, gallery and café. It suits a longer stay and travellers who want the city as residents know it.

The Trg prekomorskih brigad car park, by Kino Šiška, charges EUR 0.70 for the first two hours and EUR 0.70 for each hour after from 06:00 to 22:00, EUR 4 for the night, and leases spaces at EUR 30 a month.

Bežigrad and Stožice

The district north of the centre around the Stožice Sports Park, whose arena seats about 12,000 for basketball, handball and concerts. It suits drivers who want to leave the car at a park and ride and take the bus in.
