Where to stay in Lamezia Terme
Lamezia Terme holds the airport and Lamezia Terme Centrale station. The areas below differ mostly in how far they are from the terminal and whether the comune they sit in charges a tourist tax.

How the areas differ
Sant'Eufemia Lamezia is the quarter on the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia that holds the airport and Lamezia Terme Centrale station, about 1.4 km from the station by road. It is the practical base for an early flight.
Nicastro and Sambiase are the two quarters inland, in the same comune as Sant'Eufemia. Nicastro has the main street, Corso Numistrano; Sambiase sits about 2.6 km from it by road, around its Chiesa Matrice.
North along the coast, Gizzeria Lido and Falerna Marina belong to two separate comuni, and each charges its own tourist tax. Gizzeria Lido runs under the Capo Suvero lighthouse; Falerna Marina is about 12 km further on by road.
Staying with a rental car

SACAL states that the hire offices and their car parks sit about 100 m from the terminal, immediately visible on the right as you leave, and lists eleven companies. For the car itself, GetCar's car rental page for Lamezia Terme is the place to start.
The airport car parks are the ones with published prices. There are more than 1,600 spaces: 138 Kiss and Fly bays marked in blue at EUR 2.00 an hour for a short stop, and the automated P1 with 650 spaces, 16 of them reserved for disabled drivers, and P2 with 560 and 15 reserved. The ladder runs EUR 3.00 for an hour, EUR 5.00 for three, EUR 15.00 for twelve, EUR 20.00 for twenty-four, EUR 30.00 for two days, EUR 40.00 for three, EUR 50.00 for four, EUR 60.00 for five, EUR 70.00 for six and EUR 80.00 for seven, with EUR 8.00 for each day or part after that.
In the town itself, parking is unverified as of October 2026. The comune of Lamezia Terme tags parking, limited-traffic zones and pedestrian areas as topics on its site, but every one of those topic pages returns an error and its mobility services page is empty, so no tariff, zone or hours could be read. The photo of Corso Numistrano at the top of this page shows cars along both kerbs and a blue parking sign, so do not assume a street bay is free. Ask the host where the car goes and whether the property has its own space. A ZTL entry anywhere in Italy is billed to the car's owner, which for a rental is the rental company, so ask the host rather than guessing at an unsigned street.
Day trips with the car
Tropea is about 55 km from the terminal and about 62 km from Nicastro; Pizzo is about 27 km from the airport and Falerna Marina about 32 km.
SACAL lists the main approaches: the SS280 from Catanzaro, the motorway from Cosenza, the SS106 and then the SS280 from Crotone, and the motorway or the SS18 from Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia.
Without a car, Ferrovie della Calabria run buses from the airport to Catanzaro, Cosenza, Rende, Falerna, Vibo Valentia and Tropea, Autolinee Romano serve Cosenza, Catanzaro and Crotone, and Lamezia Multiservizi run the shuttle between the airport and Lamezia Terme Centrale station.
What the tourist tax and registration rules mean for a guest
The Comune di Lamezia Terme charges no imposta di soggiorno as of October 2026. No act for it appears in the Finance Ministry register of local tax acts for 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026, under either the tariff list or the regulation list, and the comune publishes no tourist-tax page or portal. Local press reported an attempt to introduce one in 2026; that is unverified as of October 2026. A stay in Nicastro, Sambiase or Sant'Eufemia therefore carries no nightly tax.
The coast is different, because it is a different comune. Falerna confirmed its rates for 2026 by council resolution: EUR 1.50 per person per day in hotels, residenze turistico-alberghiere, tourist villages and village hotels of every category, and EUR 1.00 in other accommodation, which the resolution lists as agriturismi, affittacamere, B&Bs, holiday homes and short lets. It is charged only between 1 April and 30 September 2026 and for at most 7 consecutive nights, and part of what it raises pays for the summer shuttle between Falerna Centro, Castiglione and Falerna Marina. Gizzeria also levies the tax, confirmed by its own act in the Ministry register, but publishes only a host login portal, so its amounts are unverified as of October 2026.
Every licensed stay in Italy, hotel or short-let flat, carries a national identification code (CIN), shown outside the building and in every listing, and Calabria's regional accommodation code stays in use alongside it. A host may accept only guests with an identity document or passport and registers each one with the police within 24 hours. A 2024 Interior Ministry circular, upheld by the Council of State in November 2025, requires identification in person or by a video link at the door.
When to book what
Falerna charges its tourist tax only from 1 April to 30 September, so an October or winter stay there carries none at all.
The airport bus service thickens in summer: Lamezia Multiservizi added 32 extra runs between the station and the airport from 27 July to 6 September 2026, mostly at the busier hours and extending the evening cover.
A base in Sant'Eufemia suits an early departure or a late arrival; the other areas are a longer drive from the terminal.
Which area for which trip
An early flight or a late arrival: Sant'Eufemia Lamezia, by the airport and the station.
The town and its main street, Corso Numistrano: Nicastro.
A stay a short drive from Nicastro, around the Chiesa Matrice: Sambiase.
A beach about 16 km from the airport: Gizzeria Lido.
A longer beach stay with the car: Falerna Marina.
Questions
Is there a tourist tax in Lamezia Terme?
Not as of October 2026. The Finance Ministry register lists no imposta di soggiorno act for the comune in 2022 to 2026 and the comune publishes no tourist-tax page. Falerna and Gizzeria, on the coast, do charge one.
How much does it cost to leave a car at Lamezia Terme airport for a week?
EUR 80.00 for seven days in the automated P1 or P2 car parks, then EUR 8.00 for each further day or part of a day.
Does Lamezia Terme have a limited-traffic zone?
None is published. The comune's topic pages for ZTL and parking return an error and its mobility page is empty, so the position is unverified as of October 2026; ask the host before parking on an unsigned street.
How far is Tropea from a base in Lamezia Terme?
About 55 km by road from the airport, about 62 km from Nicastro and about 80 km from Falerna Marina.
Which area suits a beach week?
Gizzeria Lido, about 16 km from the airport, or Falerna Marina, about 32 km. Both are in comuni that charge a small tourist tax; Lamezia Terme itself charges none.
