Where to stay in Kayseri

Kayseri works as a base in three ways: the city itself, the ski centre on Mount Erciyes and the drive to Cappadocia, about 76 km from the centre. With a car, the municipal car park hours matter as much as the price.

How the areas differ

The city centre gathers around Cumhuriyet Meydanı and Kayseri Castle, whose dark basalt walls and gates stand beside the square. Kocasinan is the district to the north, with the railway station about 2 km from the square by road and the airport farther out. Talas lies south-east, about 9 km from the centre by road; the mansion in Tablakaya where Yaman Dede was born is now a culture and art house.

Erciyes is the ski centre on the mountain seen on the southern horizon from the city, about 27 km from Cumhuriyet Meydanı by road. Cappadocia is the other direction: Ürgüp is about 71 km from Kayseri airport and Göreme about 78 km.

Staying with a rental car

Kayseri Ulaşım, an organisation of the metropolitan municipality, runs the city's car parks and street meters. In the tariff it published when checked in October 2026, a day costs TRY 80 at the Hunat, Bedesten, Kiçikapı and Tacettin car parks, TRY 100 at Mimarsinan and Gür, and TRY 120 at Kurşunlu. Street meters are free for 10 minutes, then TRY 35 up to 30 minutes and TRY 30 for each further 30 minutes.

The hours shape the choice more than the price. The Hunat, Bedesten and Tacettin multi-storeys open from 07:00 to 21:00 and close on Sundays; the open car parks at Mimarsinan, Kiçikapı and Gür Sokak close between 16:00 and 16:30. Kurşunlu, in Kocasinan, opens 07:00 to 21:30 and on Sundays. A car that has to stay overnight needs a hotel or flat with its own parking.

At Erciyes, the car park at the Kardan Adam facilities holds 1,043 vehicles and opens 08:00 to 16:30 in the ski season, Sundays included, at TRY 100 for up to 2 hours and TRY 200 beyond. GetCar's car rental page for Kayseri lists the rental options.

Tax and registration rules for a guest

Kayseri has no city tax. The national accommodation tax is 1% of the room price before VAT from 1 May to 31 December 2026, half the 2% in the law, and it appears as its own line on the invoice. When a booking site sold the stay without it, the hotel invoices the tax to the guest after the stay.

A flat let for up to 100 days needs a Ministry of Culture and Tourism permit, with the number in the listing and a plaque marked Turizm Amaçlı Konut at the entrance, and the listing must say whether parking comes with the flat. Hotels and permitted flats record each guest's passport or identity card and report it to the police at once.

When to book what

For Cappadocia, compare the two airports before the room. Kayseri airport is about 71 km from Ürgüp and about 78 km from Göreme by road, while Nevşehir Kapadokya airport is about 41 km from Göreme. A night in Kayseri suits a late arrival before the drive. Without a car, Kayseri Ulaşım bus 96HM links Cumhuriyet Meydanı and the airport every day: in the timetable published when checked in October 2026, it leaves the centre from 06:35 to 23:35 and the airport from 07:10 to 23:59.

For Erciyes, the public car park opens 08:00 to 16:30 in the ski season, so a car that stays overnight needs a hotel at the ski centre with its own parking, or a night in Talas, about 26 km from the slopes by road.

The 1% tax rate runs to 31 December 2026; from 1 January 2027 the 2% in the law applies unless a new decision extends the cut. Compare prices for the area on this page once the dates are fixed.
