A month in Amman

For a month in Amman the visa sets the calendar more than the lease: a single-entry visa bought on arrival, the extension rules at a police station, and a city with no published parking tariff.

What a month is in law

No official page was found that sets out how Jordan treats a furnished apartment rented for a month: whether the Ministry of Tourism licenses such rentals, whether a listing must carry a licence number, or whether a short lease has to be registered. Jordan's tenancy law, the Owners and Tenants Law of 1994, was found only in copies on law firm sites, so its rules are not summarised here and are unverified as of September 2026.

What is published concerns hotels. The Income and Sales Tax Department's list records the Cabinet decision of 31 May 2020 that set the general sales tax for hotels at 8% outside the Aqaba zone and cut the hotel service charge to 5%. Whether either applies to an apartment booked directly with an owner was not found. A month in a hotel or serviced apartment therefore carries both, and a private apartment should state in writing what its price includes.

The paperwork and entry limits

The visa is the part to plan. British visitors buy a single-entry visa on arrival for JOD 40; the UK government says it is valid for 3 months and can be extended online for up to 6 months, and that overstaying can bring a fine. The Jordan Pass site describes the same visa as valid for 1 month, after which a visitor pays JOD 3 at the airport for each extra day or JOD 40 at a police station for a 2-month extension. The two official sources disagree, so ask at the airport which date is stamped.

US citizens are typically given a 30-day stay on a visa on arrival. The State Department says a longer stay means registering at a police station before the time limit, usually for a single extension of 60 days, and that failing to register costs JOD 3 a day beyond the permitted stay, collected at departure. EU citizens are not on the Ministry of Interior's list of restricted nationalities and get the visa on arrival at Queen Alia.

The UK government also says foreigners staying more than 14 days must register biometrics at a police station within 14 days or pay JOD 200 on leaving, and that tourists are exempt. Passports need 6 months of validity on arrival.

The areas that suit a month

Jabal al-Weibdeh suits a month on foot: cafés and galleries around Paris Square and Downtown about 4 km away by road, closer by the stairs. Jabal Amman around Rainbow Street works the same way with more restaurants and bars. Abdali and Shmeisani suit a month in a tower apartment with a garage, and Abdoun and Sweifieh a residential month in the west with malls nearby and the car in daily use. These choices are editorial.

A car for a month

With no published municipal tariff, the answer for a month is a space that comes with the apartment. GetCar describes a city where drivers use garages and hotel and mall car parks, where unpaid parking is a JOD 10 fine, and where the municipality has been clearing unlicensed valets since May 2026 (via GetCar). The Airport Express runs from the airport to the 7th Circle for JOD 3.40, which helps if the car is collected in town later (via GetCar).

What platforms call a long stay

Airbnb calls a reservation of 28 nights or more a monthly stay. It charges the first month up front and releases it to the host 24 hours after check-in, charges later months 10 days before each period, and locks the price at booking. Its long-term cancellation policy applies to all such stays and generally asks for 30 days' notice of changes.

Pitfalls

The visa date. The UK page and the Jordan Pass site give different validity for the same visa, and a US visitor is usually given 30 days; register or extend before the stamped date.

The Jordan Pass and early departure. The fee waiver needs at least two consecutive nights on the pass's own terms, three on the UK page.

Taxes on the total. A hotel or serviced apartment adds 8% sales tax and a service charge; ask a private host for a written all-in price.

Parking. Ask for a space with the apartment; the city publishes no street tariff.

Regional advice. UK advice updated on 10 September 2026 reports missile strikes on Jordan; prefer terms that allow a change.
