Where to stay in Wrocław

Wrocław, the tourism board's city of 12 islands and 112 bridges, splits its paid parking in two. The downtown zone, inside the old moat and across to Ostrów Tumski, charges every day; the outer zone charges on weekdays, which shapes where a driver books.

How the areas differ

The Old Town surrounds the Market Square, which the tourism board calls one of the largest in Poland, with the Town Hall at its centre and cafés, restaurants and bars around it. Across the Oder, about 2 km by road from the Rynek, Ostrów Tumski holds the cathedral of St John the Baptist and the city's oldest buildings, the church of St Giles from the early 13th century and St Martin's church.

Nadodrze, north of the river and also about 2 km from the Rynek, was incorporated into the city in 1808 and has its own station, Wrocław Nadodrze. East of the centre, about 4 km, the Centennial Hall stands with the Multimedia Fountain, the Pergola, the Japanese Garden and the Pavilion of the Four Domes. To the south, about 2 km, Krzyki has Wrocław Główny, the largest railway station in Lower Silesia, and the Sky Tower.

The downtown paid zone covers the Old Town inside the moat and the streets up to pl. Bema and ul. Wyszyńskiego, which takes in Ostrów Tumski. It charges every day, Monday to Sunday, from 9.00 to 20.00. Area A, inside ul. Grodzka, św. Katarzyny, Kazimierza Wielkiego and Nowy Świat, costs PLN 7 for the first hour, PLN 7.30 for the second, PLN 7.70 for the third and PLN 7 for each hour after; area B, the rest of the downtown zone, costs PLN 5, PLN 5.20, PLN 5.50 and PLN 5. These are the rates of the consolidated resolution of December 2024, still listed by the road authority ZDiUM in October 2026.

The outer zone, which reaches Nadodrze and the streets out to ul. Reymonta, Kochanowskiego and Ślężna, charges only Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 18.00: PLN 3, PLN 3.10, PLN 3.30 and PLN 3. The minimum fee is PLN 0.50 and the meters give no change; cards, BLIK, apps and SMS also work. An unpaid stop downtown costs PLN 240 if settled within 7 days and PLN 480 after, and overstaying PLN 144 or PLN 288. A resolution of 9 July 2026 links the hourly rates to the national minimum wage from 1 February 2027.

Private cars may enter the Market Square only in exceptional situations. The tourism board points drivers to the underground car parks under Plac Wolności, by the National Forum of Music, and under Nowy Targ, the multi-storey on Kazimierza Wielkiego, and the underground car park on Małachowskiego by the main station. The park and ride sites are free, but the controlled-access ones admit only holders of a public transport season ticket of at least 24 hours on URBANCARD or the app, and close from 2:00 to 4:00. GetCar's car rental page for Wrocław compares cars for the trip.

Tax and registration for a guest

The city's Public Information Bulletin lists its local taxes and charges as property, transport, agricultural and forest tax and the stamp duty; the opłata miejscowa, the visitor levy Polish communes may adopt, is not among them. Foreigners staying in Poland up to 30 days need no residence registration.

A government bill would give every short-let flat an ID number to show in its listings; it passed committee on 17 September 2026 and awaits its second reading in the Sejm, so nothing changes for a guest yet.

When to book what

The downtown zone charges on Saturdays and Sundays too, while the outer zone is free at weekends, so a weekend with the car parked on the street costs less in Nadodrze than in the Old Town. Wrocław has no clean transport zone in force: in May 2025 the city said it had no legal obligation to create one, and no later decision was found as of October 2026.

Poland checks people crossing its borders with Germany and Lithuania until at least 30 March 2027, so a drive in from Germany can include a check. Non-EU travellers flying in from outside the Schengen area pass the EU Entry/Exit System at their first Schengen border. Compare prices on this page before booking.
