A month in Vilnius
A month in Vilnius escapes the city's EUR 2 pillow fee: the rules exclude long-term rental of one month or more. The things to settle are the contract, the Schengen day count and where the car is kept.

What a month means legally
The city's pillow fee rules draw the line at one month: long-term rental of one month or more is not charged. That is the only line between a stay and a rental found in the Lithuanian rules read for this guide; the Civil Code's lease rules were not verified, so ask the host what kind of contract a month is.
Non-EU visitors may stay 90 days in any 180 across the Schengen area, and since 10 April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System registers them at the external border. British visitors need a passport issued less than 10 years before arrival and valid at least 3 months after leaving the Schengen area, and need take no action before reaching the border. US citizens need no tourist visa. EU citizens need no residence document for the first 3 months and may be required to register after that.
The tax on a month
Vilnius charges EUR 2 per person per night on stays shorter than a month. A rental of one month or more pays nothing. Booked as four separate weeks with different hosts, the same month would pay the nightly fee, so a single contract for the whole month matters.
Registration and paperwork
The fee rules name two kinds of provider: businesses providing accommodation under the Tourism Law, and people who let premises under a business certificate from the State Tax Inspectorate. Ask the host which one applies, and for the company or certificate details, before paying a deposit.
Whether a Lithuanian host must register guests with the Migration Department or the police could not be verified for this guide, and no national registration rule for short-term rentals was confirmed.
The areas and the parking that suit a month

JUDU lists a monthly fee for one car of EUR 110 in the yellow zone and EUR 55 in the green zone, paid online; the blue and red zones have no monthly fee, so a car kept there pays by the hour, EUR 3.50 for the first blue zone hour and EUR 2.50 an hour in red. A yellow zone fee is also valid in the green zone.
Žvėrynas, the small neighbourhood of wooden houses inside a bend of the Neris about 2 km from the cathedral, and Naujamiestis by Gediminas Avenue suit a month in an apartment. Look up the street on JUDU's map to see which zone, and which monthly fee, applies before signing.
What to check before paying
The rental dates first: the pillow fee exemption needs a rental of one month or more, so a contract from the 15th of one month to the 15th of the next is exempt where a stay a few nights shorter is not. A host who charges the fee must say so with the price, because the city's rules oblige providers to inform guests about it.
Then the car: ask whether a space comes with the apartment and, if not, which JUDU zone the street is in. Summer visitors heading for the lakes should know that Karačiūnų, Žaliųjų Ežerų, Balžio and Vaidilutės streets are charged at weekends from 1 May to 30 September.
What the platforms call a long stay
Airbnb calls 28 nights or more a monthly stay. It charges the first month up front and releases it to the host 24 hours after check-in, then charges each later month 10 days before it starts. A 28-night booking is shorter than the city's one-month line, so ask whether the host treats it as a long-term rental. How other platforms label long stays in Vilnius was not verified as of September 2026.
Pitfalls
Booking 28 nights and assuming no pillow fee. The exemption covers rentals of one month or more.
Counting Schengen days only in Lithuania. The 90 days in 180 run across the whole Schengen area.
Leaving a car in the blue zone for a month. It has no monthly fee and charges every hour of every day.
