A month in Turin
Turin’s tourist tax stops after seven nights of a month. The all-year emission ban on older cars applies every day of it.

What a month means legally here
Italian law calls a home let for up to 30 days a short let. It carries a national identification code, the CIN, outside the building and in every listing, and the host registers each guest with the police within 24 hours of arrival.
A lease of a home for more than 30 days in a year must be registered with the Agenzia delle Entrate within 30 days of signing, and a lease that should be registered and is not is void. A holiday month is a tourist let under the Civil Code. A transitory lease, up to 18 months, is for a documented need such as work or study and uses a standard form; if the need is missing or the form is wrong, the law turns it into an ordinary long lease.
The tourist tax is capped at seven consecutive nights per person, so a month in a three-star hotel costs EUR 24.50 per person in tax and a month in a short let EUR 26.60. From 2026 those seven nights are counted over the year rather than the quarter, which matters for anyone coming back for work every few weeks.
The areas that suit a month

San Salvario and Vanchiglia are the two student and nightlife quarters, well stocked with flats and food, and both lie outside the ZTL Centrale. Crocetta is quieter, residential and also outside the zone. Borgo Po suits a calm month within walking distance of the centre. Lingotto suits a work month built around a car. The Centro and the Quadrilatero Romano put everything at the door and make the weekday mornings the problem. This ranking is editorial.
With a car, check the parking tariff. Blue bays are charged Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 19:30 at EUR 2.80 an hour inside the ZTL Centrale, EUR 1.70 ordinary, EUR 1.50 reduced and EUR 1.20 smart, so a flat in an outer band costs less to park at every day of the month. GTT also rents places in its structures, and those keep charging during the August suspension of the street tariff.
Before signing anything for a flat inside the ZTL Centrale, ask how the car is meant to reach the door. The city issues no visitor permit, and the permit categories it does issue are tied to residence, work or a parking space in the zone.
The paperwork
Deposit: for a home let as a dwelling the deposit may not exceed three months’ rent under article 11 of Law 392/1978. Whether that cap binds a holiday let governed by the Civil Code is unverified as of September 2026, so agree the deposit in writing.
Every guest shows an identity document or passport at check-in, children included, and the host registers them with the police. A key box with a code sent after an identity-document upload, with no in-person or video check, is the practice the 2024 circular rejects.
EU citizens staying more than three months register with the comune’s registry office, with proof of work, study, or enough money and health cover. A landlord who houses a non-EU national notifies the police within 48 hours with the passport details. Visitors from outside the EU, including the United Kingdom and the United States, may stay 90 days in any 180 across the Schengen area, and the EU Entry/Exit System has registered their short stays since 10 April 2026. A non-EU visitor arriving from another Schengen country declares presence to the police headquarters within eight days.
What platforms call long stays
Vrbo’s monthly-stays page, as archived in June 2026, describes stays of 28 nights or more and says select homes offer a discount for them. Agoda lets partners offer long-stay promotions on bookings of more than 28 days and permits stays of up to 90 days.
The platform label does not settle the legal status. Up to 30 days, check the CIN on the listing; beyond 30 days, ask for a written lease and its registration with the Agenzia delle Entrate.
Pitfalls
A listing with no CIN. Every licensed stay must show one.
A lease of more than 30 days that is never registered: it is void, and tenant and landlord share liability for the registration tax.
A deposit above three months’ rent on a lease of a home.
Renting an older diesel or petrol car for a long stay: Euro 2 and below are banned from the city all year, around the clock.
Assuming the August suspension covers everything: the Trasporto Pubblico, Pedonale, Area Romana and Valentino zones and the barrier car parks are excluded from it.
Questions
Is a month in Turin a short let or a lease?
Up to 30 days a whole flat is a short let with a CIN. Beyond 30 days in a year it is a lease that must be registered with the Agenzia delle Entrate within 30 days.
How much tourist tax is due on a month in Turin?
Seven nights at most. That is EUR 24.50 per person in a three-star hotel and EUR 26.60 in a short let or holiday flat, for each guest who has turned 13.
Which Turin areas suit a month with a car?
San Salvario, Crocetta, Vanchiglia, Borgo Po and Lingotto all sit outside the ZTL Centrale, so a car can reach the door at any hour.
Does the seven-night tax cap reset every month?
No. From 2026 the seven taxed nights are counted on an annual basis rather than quarterly, so repeat stays in the same year add up.
Do EU citizens need to register for a long stay in Turin?
Only beyond three months, at the comune’s registry office, with proof of work, study, or sufficient resources and health cover.
