Questions

Is there a tourist tax in Trabzon?

Turkey charges a national accommodation tax rather than a city tax: 1% of the room price before VAT from 1 May to 31 December 2026, and 2% before that. It appears as its own line on the invoice. If a booking site left it out, the property invoices it after the stay.

How far is Sumela Monastery from Trabzon?

About 44 km by road from Meydan Park, and about 17 km from the town of Maçka. The monastery opens every day from 08:00 to 17:00, and the ticket office closes at 16:30.

Where can a rental car park in central Trabzon?

The municipality's transport company, TULAŞ, opened an open car park for 450 cars on the old bus station site in Değirmendere, a neighbourhood about 2 km by road from Meydan. In July 2024 it charged TRY 20 for the first hour, TRY 130 for a full day and TRY 2,000 a month; no 2026 confirmation was found.

Does a holiday flat in Trabzon need a licence?

Yes. A flat let for up to 100 days needs a Ministry of Culture and Tourism permit, a plaque at the entrance and the permit number in every listing, and every flat owner in the building must have agreed. The host also registers each guest with the police.
