A month in Seychelles

A visitor's permit is issued on arrival for up to three months, free of charge, so a month needs no extension. No separate rule for long stays in guest houses or self-catering places was found: a month is a stay like any other, in a place that must be licensed.

The levy depends on the size of the establishment. A self-catering flat in a place with 24 rooms or fewer pays none since 1 January 2026; at SCR 75 a night, a month of 30 nights in a medium establishment adds SCR 2,250 per person, and at SCR 100 in a large hotel SCR 3,000. Children of 12 and below and residents are exempt, and no cap on nights was found. VAT at 15% applies when the business is VAT-registered.

No reputable source on monthly rents, deposits or utilities was found, so this guide gives no rent figures.

The east coast of Mahé, around Au Cap, Anse Royale and Anse aux Pins, has 71 listed self-catering places, about 10 km from the airport. Beau Vallon suits a month with restaurants, bars and water sports on the doorstep, about 5 km from Victoria; 61 of its 65 listed places have 24 rooms or fewer, so most charge no levy.

Praslin, with its places to stay around Grand Anse and the Côte d'Or, suits a month of beaches without the car, and La Digue a month by bicycle. These choices are editorial.

Every journey needs its own Travel Authorisation, EUR 10 for an adult with the standard review, and an application naming accommodation not on the Tourism Department's list may be denied. The visitor's permit asks for a return or onward ticket, confirmed accommodation and enough funds for the stay.

To stay longer than three months, apply online at permits.ics.gov.sc, paying by card, or at the Immigration and Civil Status Office at Independence House in Victoria. Each extension of up to three months costs SCR 5,000, to a maximum of twelve months in total.

Working, paid or unpaid, needs a Gainful Occupation Permit. A UK photocard driving licence is valid for 3 months, according to UK travel advice.

Airbnb calls a reservation of 28 nights or more a monthly stay. It charges the first month up front and releases it to the host 24 hours after check-in, then charges each later month 10 days in advance, at the price fixed at booking. A long-term cancellation policy applies and generally requires 30 days' notice of changes.

The levy does not depend on the platform: the establishment collects it from the guest, whoever made the booking, and lists it on the invoice.

A car is for Mahé only. Guest houses and self-catering places on Mahé and Praslin should have parking, so ask where the car stays before booking. Victoria's street spaces take parking coupons (via GetCar), and UK travel advice warns that criminals target parked cars.

A listing that is not on the Tourism Department's list. The Travel Authorisation can be refused, so check the name first.

The wrong coast for the month. UK advice rates west coast beaches unsafe around December to March and east coast beaches around May to September.

A month of luggage on the ferry. Cat Cocos carries 25 kg free for non-residents in economy and charges per kilo above that.

Staying past three months without an extension, or working without a Gainful Occupation Permit.
