Where to stay in Rzeszów

Rzeszów is the capital of the Subcarpathian region, with coaches from its airport to the Bieszczady and roads east to the Ukrainian border. Its paid parking runs on weekdays only, and the streets around 3 Maja are closed to most cars.

How the areas differ

The regional tourism platform calls Rzeszów a compact city. The Old Town gathers around the Market Square, with the Town Hall, whose history goes back to the 15th century, the Rzeszów Cellars underneath the square, and 3 Maja Street, one of the oldest promenades, with the former Piarist convent.

About 1 km south of the Rynek by road, the former Lubomirski residences and the chestnut alley of Aleja Pod Kasztanami surround the Multimedia Fountain, which plays every evening. About 2 km north, the railway station and the main bus station on Artura Grottgera serve trains, airport buses and regional coaches. Jasionka, about 14 km north of the centre, holds the airport and the Subcarpathian Science Center "Łukasiewicz".

The paid zone charges on weekdays only, Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00, under the council resolution in force since 1 January 2023; no 2026 change was found. In the blue sub-zone 1, which covers the centre around the Rynek and 3 Maja on the city's 2020 zone map, a stop costs PLN 5 for the first hour, PLN 6 for the second, PLN 7.20 for the third and PLN 5 for each hour after. Sub-zones 2 to 4, which take in the castle quarter on the same map, cost PLN 3, PLN 3.60, PLN 4.30 and PLN 3. An unpaid stop brings an additional fee of PLN 70 if paid within 3 days of the notice, PLN 150 within 7 days and PLN 200 after that.

Two restricted traffic zones close the heart of the centre. Under the President's order of 3 October 2024, zone A covers ul. 3 Maja, Kościuszki, Matejki and part of Grunwaldzka, with a 10 km/h limit; without a permit only emergency and service vehicles and bicycles may enter, and residents with courtyards hold passes. Zone B covers Aleja Pod Kasztanami, Dekerta, Tetmajerów, Długosza, Alsa and Dąbrówki, where taxis may drive at any time. The order has been amended since, in 2024, 2025 and April 2026, and those amendments were not read, so ask the host how a guest's car reaches the door.

Jasionka belongs to the neighbouring commune of Trzebownisko, outside the city's paid zone. GetCar's car rental page for Rzeszów compares cars for the trip.

Coaches leave the airport for Sanok, Lesko, Ustrzyki Dolne, Krosno, Solina and Polańczyk, and for Przemyśl via Łańcut, Przeworsk and Jarosław. By road, Sanok is about 76 km from the Market Square and Ustrzyki Dolne about 112 km. In the Bieszczady the regional tourism platform points to the Bieszczady Forest Railway, a narrow-gauge line it calls the highest in Poland, the Museum of Folk Architecture in Sanok, and Orthodox churches on the UNESCO list. Łańcut Castle, a 17th-century magnate residence, is about 18 km from the Rynek.

East of Rzeszów, the road crossings into Ukraine include Korczowa-Krakowiec, about 99 km by road, and Medyka-Szeginie, about 102 km. Ukraine lies outside the EU and the Schengen area, so non-EU travellers pass the Entry/Exit System on return. The government site granica.gov.pl publishes waiting times and notices; on 10 September 2026 it announced a temporary suspension of coach clearance at Medyka on entry to Poland. Whether rental companies allow a car into Ukraine was not verified.

Tax and registration for a guest

A Polish commune may charge the opłata miejscowa, a local visitor levy, only where its council adopts one, at most PLN 3.46 a day in 2026. Whether Rzeszów levies it was unverified as of October 2026. Foreigners staying in Poland up to 30 days need no residence registration.

A government bill would give every short-let flat an ID number to show in its listings; it passed committee on 17 September 2026 and awaits its second reading in the Sejm, so nothing changes for a guest yet.

When to book what

The paid zone charges nothing on Saturdays and Sundays, so a weekend arrival can park on a paid-zone street without paying, outside the restricted A and B streets. Compare prices on this page before booking.
