Krabi's airport lies east of the town, about 15 km by road from the centre and about 29 km from Ao Nang. Railay has no road at all, and Koh Lanta is reached by car ferry, so the choice of base decides how the car gets used.

The capital and main town of the province, where the Krabi River flows into Phang Nga Bay, with the twin limestone rocks of Khao Khanab Nam as its landmark. It suits a stay close to the airport and a base for drives across the province.

Where to stay
Krabi spreads its bases along the coast and onto an island. Ao Nang and Krabi town are road bases, Railay is boat only, and Koh Lanta needs the car ferry, so the right area depends on how much driving the trip holds.

In Thai law a month is the dividing line: lodging charged by the month or longer is outside the Hotel Act. The visa-free stay for EU, UK and US visitors is 30 days since September 2026, which sets the frame for a month in Krabi.
