About Corfu

Corfu runs about 64 km from north to south, and the airport sits 2 km from Corfu Town. Staying in town keeps the airport and the ferries close; the resorts of the north and north-east are 31 to 37 km from town by road, so the car becomes part of every day.

Corfu Town

The old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site with Venetian forts, the Liston arcades and the Spianada, with the airport and the ferry port a few kilometres away. It suits a city stay on foot and travellers who keep the car for day trips.

The municipality says the historic centre is full in August and points drivers to the peripheral car parks, 10 to 15 minutes' walk away: Lyriko on Donatou Dimoulitsa Street has about 250 spaces, Mantouki and Alsos Fylakon about 60 each. The Spilia car park at the Old Port is free but busy, and the Corfu ParkApp shows free spaces.

Resort villages on the east coast north of Corfu Town, with the marina at Gouvia and the shingle beach at Dassia. They suit families and couples who want a beach with short drives to the town and the airport.

Kassiopi and the north-east coast

The harbour village of Kassiopi and the pebble bays of Kalami and Agni, facing the Albanian mountains across the strait. It suits villa stays and couples; a car is close to essential.

No official parking source was found as of September 2026. Travel guides cited by GetCar describe the lanes down to Agni and Kalami as narrow and steep, with little parking at the bottom, so ask the host where to leave the car.

Is there a tourist tax in Corfu?

Yes. Greece charges a climate resilience fee per night and per room or property: a short-term rental pays EUR 8 from April to October and EUR 2 from November to March, a detached house over 80 m2 or a villa EUR 15 and EUR 4, and hotels EUR 2 to 15 from April to October, by star rating. Hotels and professional hosts also charge a municipal visitors' fee on the price: 0.75% in Central Corfu, which includes Corfu Town, and in North Corfu, and 0.5% in South Corfu.

Where can a rental car park in Corfu Town?

In the peripheral car parks, which the municipality says are 10 to 15 minutes' walk from the centre: Lyriko on Donatou Dimoulitsa Street, the largest municipal one, has about 250 spaces. The municipal Spilia car park at the Old Port is free but busy. The historic centre is full in August.

Which part of Corfu needs a car most?

The north and north-east. Kassiopi and Sidari are about 36 km by road from Corfu Town, and the bays at Kalami and Agni are reached by narrow lanes. Gouvia and Dassia are about 10 to 13 km from town.
