What a month means legally
Slovakia is in the EU and the Schengen area. Non-EU visitors may stay 90 days in any 180 across the whole area, and since 10 April 2026 the EU Entry/Exit System registers them at the external border. EU citizens need no visa.
The police rule depends on where the guest sleeps. Hotels, hostels and guesthouses report their foreign guests. In private accommodation the foreigner reports at the foreign police department for the address, within 3 working days of entering Slovakia for non-EU citizens and within 10 working days for EU citizens, and signs the form called Hlásenie pobytu. Ask the host of a monthly flat which of the two applies.
The tax on a month
The tax falls on paid temporary accommodation, including a flat in an apartment block, at EUR 3.50 per person per night in Staré Mesto and EUR 3 in the other districts, rates in force since 1 July 2023. A month of 30 nights pays 30 nights; the tax stops counting after 60 nights with the same host in one calendar year. For one adult, 30 nights in Staré Mesto come to EUR 105 in tax, and 30 nights in Petržalka, Ružinov or Nové Mesto to EUR 90.
The regulation taxes paid temporary accommodation as the Civil Code defines it. Whether a monthly rental signed as a lease counts is not explained on the city page and is unverified as of September 2026. The exemptions for under-18s, over-70s and full-time students do not apply when the stay is booked through a digital platform.
Registration and paperwork
The host keeps a guest book with each guest's name, address, date of birth, document number and nights, and must give the guest a receipt showing the tax rate, nights, guests and total. A host who cannot issue that receipt is worth questioning before a deposit is paid.
Hosts register with the city within 30 days of starting to let and file a monthly return by the 15th. A platform may also collect the tax for the host under an agreement with the city.
The areas and the parking that suit a month

PAAS gives visitors hourly tariffs; its resident and subscriber cards go to people who live, do business or own property in a zone. A month with a car means hourly tickets, a private space from the host, or a park and ride site. Petržalka suits that best on cost: its sections charge EUR 1 an hour from 12:00 on working days, and P+R Tesco Petržalka sits 18 minutes from the centre.
Eurovea and the Nivy riverside suit a month close to the river and the shops, with underground parking whose first hours the tourism board lists as free. Nové Mesto sections charge EUR 1.50 an hour and sit about 8 km from the airport. For trips out, a 30-day e-vignette costs EUR 17.10.
Staré Mesto and the castle hill suit a month on foot without a car. They pay the higher tax rate, and their kerbside sections charge EUR 2 an hour on working days.
What the platforms call a long stay
Airbnb calls 28 nights or more a monthly stay. It charges the first month up front and releases it to the host 24 hours after check-in, then charges each later month 10 days before it starts. How other platforms label long stays in Bratislava was not verified as of September 2026.
Pitfalls
Expecting a child or student discount on a platform booking. The city regulation withholds the exemptions there.
Counting Schengen days only in Slovakia. The 90 days in 180 run across the whole area.
Leaving the police report to the host in a private flat. The rule puts it on the foreigner unless the place is an accommodation facility.
Parking outside a marked space. In a PAAS zone that is not allowed even when charging has stopped for the day.
